Increase The Distance
Between your chin and chest.
When was the last time you glanced upwards?
We all dream to (some day) become one of many different things. Some of us never stop dreaming of what to become.
Will that dreamed something end up as more than a husband, father, brother or friend, (or the feminine form of either)? You can’t bank on the uncertain. You can’t count on anything except inevitability. And, you sure as hell won’t know until you try.
I often evaluate my happiness based on the inputs in my life that I can control. If I feel something is missing, I find a replacement. If I can’t find a replacement, I find a substitute. If something still seems out of place, I pay it forward.
Selfishly, I feel better about myself when I do kind things for others. This is not a bad thing. Others, sometimes assume a more irreverent motive than me just trying to be kind to someone (or something) I care about.
NOTE: Others” do not include those “previously on LOST.”
Looking through images of space on one of my favorite Web sites, I can’t help but come to terms with several notions.
1. It looks very bright out there (in space).
2. Earth is kinda big (compared to my computer monitor).
3. My room is really small (I need a new, bigger one).
4. It sucks that we only get to enjoy part of the night sky (at
one time).5. It’s time for bed (on this kinda big planet, in my really small room, where I can see even less of that night sky through a frosted glass window).
6. And, it has been too long since I increased the distance between my chin and chest.

One of my favorite quotes.. (because its taken from a letter from me to my mother)
“As far as the uniqueness of the earth being able to support life well that is also just ignorance. I define ignorance as being unaware of a specific topic. I agree that things must meet an ideal utopia, Goldilocks zone, for life to exist. For someone standing in their backyard and looking up at the endless stars it is understandable for them to feel special. We are the only known(to us) intelligent life in the universe.
“It has been estimated that there are between 1 billion and 30 billion planets in our galaxy, and about 100 billion galaxies in the universe. Knocking a few noughts off for reasons of ordinary prudence, a billion billion is a conservative estimate of the number of available planets in the universe. Now, suppose the origin of life, the spontaneous arising of something equivalent to DNA, really was a staggeringly improbable event. Suppose it was so improbable as to occur on only one in a billion planets. [...] Even with such absurdly looking odds, life will still have arisen on a billion planets – of which Earth, of course, is one.” -Dawkins
If that person was aware that this was even a possibility he might have a lesser degree of naiveness. So when you want to have an intelligent informed discussion about gods existence let me know. “
Hmmm……..Very well written however, I’m still processing. Will get back to you later.
ok….I’ve also been guilty, at one point in my life, of relying on the things I can change to make me happy. Ruler of one’s own destiny, right? But, it’s the things we can’t change that force us to find happiness in what is. In all honesty, we are in control of absolutely nothing, because at any moment, the things we thought we were in control of, can change. Minus our help. Or so I’m learning. Sometimes there can be difficulties in self control, am I right? When we react or respond or do without being able to stop ourselves? Impulsive is a good word I haven’t used in awhile. And happiness can be found in being impulsive and slightly out of control. Maybe I’m just justifying my own behavior and craziness. But in my young 26 years I’ve found that findng happiness in what is, is really the way to do it. Just let go and keep yourself open. (Side note: In theory, this is easy. However, in real life, it is a bit difficult. I try my best) wow……….I just wrote all that. hmp.
re: “In all honesty, we are in control of absolutely nothing”
Perspective – the way we want to see. YOUR world is what you make it. We can not control every aspect of our surroundings nor should we try. Individuals who try to mend all defects outside of themselves will inevitably fail and stand alone. Inversely individuals who transfer their will to some exterior entity never really live. Solution, be an opportunist. Inquisition not suppression creates opportunity. Options create paths for dreams. The only guaranteed thing we can have control over is ourself. We can not control all the foreign catalysts that influence our path. However, we can evolve to absorb or refract these variables to rationalize a realistic avenue. The way we respond to the things we can not control ultimately defines our perspective.
